Hi Marcus. I bought volume 8 from you. The sword i am researching is item 2200 April 23. 1980. Yukimitsu wakizashi. At the very end on write-up on the Yukimitsu, Honda says the sayagaki was done for trustee Hayashi Eiroku.
In using the term ‘trustee’ what is the japanese meaning? Hayashi Eiroku (if one in the same) authored books on Tsuba and a few of those were in conjunction with Nobuo Okimasa. Does the word trustee mean custodian or is the inference that he was a peer or office bearer. Thanks. Love your work.
Hi Mark, the term used in Japanese is hyōgi’in (評議員), which can mean “trustee” or “counsilor,” as in “Member of the Board of Counsilors.” I am not sure what Hayashi Eiroku’s position was at that time, so I used “trustee.” Also, I am positive that it is the same person who authored the tsuba books.
