Just Some Battle Statistics

Last week, I found some time to do something that I wanted to do for a while. We all basically know about many battles throughout Japanese history and when and where they took place, but I wanted to put some data behind that to just visualize and confirm (or dismiss) my knowledge/hunch. So I gathered all major battles of the Kamakura, Nanbokuchō, and Muromachi period, chronologically and geographically. There is some bunch of data missing, like subjugations of entire regions over the span of decades, etc., but it gives you a rough overview.

Disclaimer: There is some overlap/inconsistency around the transition from Kamakura to Nanbokuchō going back to different takes in Japanese “era-ism” about when one era ended and the other began. Also, the invasion of Korea was left out, as was Sekigahara (just battles leading right up to that mother of all battles).

In any case, I just wanted to post those stats here as they might be useful for the one or other, especially in terms of (local) sword production.

PS: No AI involved, except for producing the histograms from a CSV. Everything else put together manually and all geographic locations manually checked as well.
