Sehr geehrter Herr Sesko, habe kürzlich Ihr Buch “Leitfaden zum japanischen Schwert” erworben. Die Fülle an Information ist, für einen Laien, mit einer steilen Lernkurve verbunden, insbesondere da die Fachbegriffe mit mindestens drei weiteren Fachbegriffen erklärt werden und es kein Register gibt.
Desweiteren möchte ich empfehlen das Buch einer kritischen Redaktion zu unterziehen. Fachliteratur ist teuer, dafür habe ich Verständnis, auf jeder Seite des Buches mindestens 3 orthographische Katastrophen vorzufinden geht aber mal gar nicht. Es entsteht der Eindruck, als sei ein englischer Text mittels billiger Software ins Deutsche transportiert worden. Über die Qualität der Bindung, des Papiers, der Abbildungen möchte ich lieber schweigen. 80 Euro für die Expertise eines der führenden Spezialisten auf dem Gebiet zu bezahlen ist sicherlich angemessen. Für den fachlichen Inhalt bin ich Ihnen sehr dankbar, auch wenn er laiengemässer aufbereitet sein könnte. Die Umsetzung durch die Redaktion und den Verlag halte ich für mangelhaft und in anbetracht des Preises, für eine Frechheit.

Der hohe Preis richtet sich nach den recht hohen on-demand Druckkosten für eine Hardcover-Ausgabe (und dieser Lösung liegt auch die Qualität zugrunde, im Gegensatz zu einem traditionellen Verleger), plus den niedrigen Absatzzahlen im deutschsprachigen Raum (weit unter dem dreistelligen Bereich).
